Capitola is a classic beach destination for generations that have sought to cool down by the beach, and rent a bungalow in the summer. As this little town has grown since the late 1800’s, its’ charm has not diminished. Capitola is a small ocean front community that has a quaint beach esplanade with a variety of shops and restaurants. The town really has two parts, one a quaint seaside section with multi-million ocean view homes, and another that has the main shopping attraction, the Capitola Mall, with Macy’s Gottschalk’s’ and others. Capitola has a water level section which most people associate with Capitola beach, and several more elevated neighborhoods on the next marine terrace. These flat sunny neighborhoods have colorful names like the Jewel Box, and Depot Hill, and “Cliffwood Heights.” Capitola is well known as a beach location and has at one end of it the New Brighton Beach State Park, and the Capitola main beach with surfing at its’ southern end. Jutting from shore is a small pleasure pier that houses a restaurant and a bait and tackle shop. The Capitola pier is good to fish from and a concessionaire has moorings for rent, so pleasure seekers can come by car or boat to enjoy this seaside community. Many people have been coming here for generations and what where once small beach cottages used in the summer have become full time residences, some being torn down to be replaced by architecturally interesting and colorful full time beach homes. Capitola Real Estate varies from multi- million dollar ocean view homes second to none, to small utilitarian 2 bedroom cottages, to ocean view condominiums, to working class condominiums that are a 20 minute walk to the water. There is a house for everyone here by the beach. With prices now as low as the 300’s for first time buyer condominiums, some are considering these condominiums’ as an inexpensive way to get into the Capitola beach home market. One can find ocean view condominiums from in the $600,000’s to upscale ocean view luxury homes up to $5 million dollars. There is everything for every budget and a whole lot of fun by the sea.
