The eastside of Santa Cruz is a different sort of place. It has shops and little businesses as well as a host of different neighborhoods, but no mall like the Pacific Garden Mall. Some call the area “the eastside” and others “east side Santa Cruz”. Regardless of the choice, the neighborhoods and history are different from the rest in Santa Cruz, California. Generally in searching for East Santa Cruz real estate, the town is split east side Santa Cruz from westside Santa Cruz, by Ocean Street. This is the main drive into town that many will traverse on their way to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk from Highway 17.
The Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is across the San Lorenzo River, which meanders alongside one portion of East Santa Cruz’s more sought after neighborhoods, the Seabright area. Seabright beach, also known to locals as Castle Beach, has been a favorite for its’ big sandy beach, for generations. Seabright has some great oceanfront homes, and others, that overlook the Santa Cruz yacht harbor. Ocean view homes are not as common in Seabright as they are on West Cliff Drive in West Santa Cruz. East Cliff Drive, the sister road that runs along Santa Cruz county’s shoreline has a number of luxury homes overlooking the sandy beaches as it runs its course down to Opal Cliffs. There are more beaches in East Santa Cruz and Live Oak, than in west Santa Cruz.
The east side of town neighborhoods range from Prospect Heights at the next marine plateau, located just below Delaveaga Golf Course to Seabright at the Santa Cruz Yacht Harbor. Heritage Landing is a favorite as it is a gated development and the town homes are generally large. Many have fabulous harborside views of the boats. The east side of Santa Cruz has neighborhoods with different names, such as Prospect Heights, the Banana belt, Santa Cruz Yacht harbor homes, Heritage Landing and others. While the “Surf City” moniker for Santa Cruz holds true, there is not a lot of surfing in East Santa Cruz, but nearby in the adjacent community of Live Oak. The Pleasure Point neighborhood in Live Oak is world renown for surfing and is a favorite of surfers and water lovers. There are more cute beach cottages in Seabright than any other location and has a sister area called Twin Lakes. This beach area that abuts the Crows Nest at the Santa Cruz yacht harbor was the other old favorite area that developed in the late 1800’s to early 1900’s. East Santa Cruz was a third area further inland, and is the predominant business hub anchoring the other side of Santa Cruz, with many well know eateries and small shops. Whether you are looking for an East Side Santa Cruz home or townhome, there are a lot of choices to fit everyone.
