The Seacliff area of Aptos, is an interesting older seaside community. Seacliff homes here date from the 30’s, but most of those older smaller ones have been torn down and replaced with more modern oceanview homes. Seacliff started in the late 20’s and had a downturn during the depression era. Seacliff had its’ early fits and starts of growing since then. Most recently getting towards approval of a new park, a new church, and some affordable housing, it has its recent spurt on the Mac Gregor Road land. Seacliff is a community of a differing character from its neighbor to the south, Rio Del Mar, though they were cousins in the developmental times. The Rio Del Mar real estate development was always a grander scheme, having oceanfront clubs, and a golf course.

Seacliff has an interesting history, mixed in with the rest of Aptos, Rio Del Mar, and Seascape. While the real estate here is mostly all built up, there is some commercial, condominiums with ocean views, and homes on the sand. The “downtown” is small, but enjoyed by locals and tourists as well. Mostly just a few decent eateries and a nightclub, it has been a favorite of mine for years.

Seacliff also has a state park, Seacliff State Beach Park. This California state park has one of the few areas in the state that you can rent space overnight right on the waters edge in your RV. It marvels the best views one can get. It also has the pleasure pier from which you can fish, attached to the sunken “Palo Alto” cement boat.
