My name is Raquel Ott, born and raised in the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre in the southernmost state in Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul.

My whole family still lives in Brazil. They are my parents, my brother Marcelo, who is 14 months older than me, and his beautiful wife Debora. In 1999 I decided to move to the United States to work as an aupair. I found a family in South Florida, who needed an aupair, and I decided to look for friends in that neighborhood, before getting on a plane to South Florida. In my search for friends, I met my sweetheart, Arthur, whom I've been happily married to for almost 6 years.

In the spring of 2002 we moved to beautiful Mathews, VA, due to my husband's job transfer.

I did some volunteer work with the Bay School, utilizing their materials to do arts and crafts with senior citizens at both the Nursing Home (Riverside Convalescent Center) and at the Senior Center (now called Mathews Active Lifestyle Center, I believe). I really enjoyed spending time with them, and listening to their stories!

Soon after we arrived in Mathews, I also started volunteering at the Mathews Memorial Library, where I now also work part time.

I also worked at Bullfrogs & Butterflies, a daycare in town, where I worked in the nursery, taking care of 4 to 5 infants, ages 4 months to 16 months old. I really miss them, but since I work in town, and this is a small town, I am only a 2 minute walk from anywhere in "downtown" Mathews, VA!

There is so much to love about this town! Main Street, or "downtown Mathews" is so quaint and special. On Main Street you'll find The Pelican Cove (Italian Bistro), Richardson's (great food), the Mathews Memorial Library (where yours truly works part time), Sibley's General Store (Visitors' Center), Maggie's (great women's clothing store), Carpenters on Main (new restaurant, great food also), the Pub/Hops & Barley and its niks and nacks, the Bay School of Arts, the Dilly Dally Emporium (gift store) and down on Church Street you have Cattails (another great gift store) and Southwind Pizza, the best place to chill at Thursday through Saturday evenings (their food is fresh, to die for, and the owners and waitresses are the sweetest people I know! Trust me! Try their Berkeley Pizza, the crust hand made by Ned!). These are my favorite little places in Mathews, VA.

Some of my favorite things to do are watch (good) movies with my sweetie, listening to (good) music, hang out with friends and(extended) family, ride our jetskis in the summer, boat rides and doing arts and crafts. One of my favorite pastimes is cooking. I especially love cooking Brazilian food, Cuban, Mexican, Italian, Cajun, Southern and also local Chesapeake Bay fare.

I believe that you should love what you do, and Real Estate, and being a Real Estate Agent is what I want to do. Buying a home is such an important step in one's life, and so much is invested into it, that I want to help people make this event, that is buying (or selling) the place where you will spend the best years of your life in, or that you already have spend so many beautiful times in and are now disposing of, I want to make it a special and smooth transition. My wish is that through my work I can build long lasting relationships with my clients, and that I always remind myself of why I got into real estate, to help people make the most important purchase in their lives!

What Would I Like to Focus On?

I would like to especialize in first time home buyers and relocation. In the meantime I think it would be very helpful to try different areas in real estate and make sure that's really what I want to especialize in. This is a great area for second homes/vacation homes, so it would to ignore that aspect of our local market. But the reason why I primarily got into Real Estate was to help people make their dream of being a home owner come true, and that's what I would love to stick with it and explore the most.
