North Carolina has found itself fortunate to contain within its borders the vacation jewel known as the Barrier Islands of the Outer Banks. This 80-mile-long thin strip of sand and islands form the Barrier Islands which protect the mainland part of the state from the onslaught of the Atlantic Ocean. I have been living on the edge of the continent since the summer of 1979 when I moved my very young family to the Outer Banks in search of a better life for my kids. Our beach is as great a place to raise a family as it is to visit for vacation.

I started selling real estate here on the Outer Banks in 1989, just as the last recession started to get underway and I had to learn how to sell real estate in what was then the worst market before current times. I survived that recession and am thriving in this one. My wife and I sold an average of one piece of real estate every 17 days in 2009 and are on track to do even more this year. My 20-plus years of experience has saved me from the fate most of my fellow real estate agents are experiencing right now.
