For the past 8 years now I have been guiding Buyers, Sellers and Renters through the Minneapolis Condo market. What has been interesting is that over the past few years that buyer and renter market have become more acutely aware of the Realtors that deal in the downtown markets relative to agents that handle other ares of the market. Needless to say anyone that is going to practice real estate full time should have a focus or a niche somewhere is the market where most-not necessarily all of their business-is generated.
During the boom times (mid 2000s) it was not uncommon to see Buyers and Sellers working with the family friend or any real estate agent that was convenient within arms reach. At the time market transparency was low, access to market information was still in its infancy and few agents in our market had yet to hear about the importance of a solid real estate related website.
Fast forward to 2011 and market information is available at everyone's figer tips any time of the day. However market activity is being dominated in large by those that deal in a particular area of the market and those that understand the power of leveraging their brand as a Realtor on the web. As we progress in the future I am convinced those that use the latest technologies will do significantly better than the rest of the industry. They are the outliers and visionaries of the real estate market!
