new Google 'Search Wiki' tool,
Posted Nov 21, 2008 @ 10:35 am, Viewed by 601 Visitors, Read 664 Times. This is something new I just noticed today. Is anyone familiar with this? Do you know how it may affect google results?
I typed in "Real Estate" in my google search. REW came up on the FIRST page at the bottom.
I clicked the up arrow which moved the result to the top of the page.
It reads under the result, "You are the first person to pick this result".
There's also a comment icon to click which reads "Type your comment here", and "Make a public comment".
This is fascinating that we can share comments about sites publicly. If you know more about this feature and how we can help eachother, especially within the REW community, please share your comments!
thanks

I wish I could... the blog wont let me. i tried Ctrl/Print Screen. if you want, i can email it to you directly
I just sent it to: webmaster AT cook county real estate DOT net
It was the only email address I could find for you....
I got it. I see the little arrows on your screenshot but I don't have those arrows on my Google results page. Maybe it's only on some datacenters or they're experimenting.
I tried it and couldn't find the arrow either.
It's very impressive that REW is on the first page for "real estate" when google has 4.6 million results!

Do you have a gmail account? I signed out of mine, and the arrows went away. Sign in and try it, it's pretty cool...!
My original search was done logged out on IE. I'm automatically logged in on FF but had IE open as one of my websites can only be edited in IE. So you do have to be logged in.
I'm always skeptical about these kinds of voting or promoting things. Too easy in the world of real estate to get negative votes from the competition.
I'm not sure what effect this "voting" system will really have on serps. So I guess we all have to go promote our own now, right? Sounds silly to me.
i think the idea is to get a sense of the more relevant site per any given search. You will obviously have the site owners give themselves favorable ratings, and their competition UNfavorable ratings.
I would imagine, though, that these are only a small fraction of the help that will be given... AND the majority should be objective unbiased searchers who help make Google deliver good search results. Overall, it sounds like a great idea to me. Another way to help deliver true results.
Hi BJ,
I don't have a Gmail account. I did receive your e-mail, copied the Google page with arrow and posted the screenshot in a new blog entry.
Apparently we need gmail accounts to get this feature.
Thanks, Mike
Mike, I'm not sure if you need a gmail account, just a Google account like if you sign up for free things like Google Analytics or one of their many other webmaster tools.
Hi Judy,
I logged into my Google account and tried searching for "real estate" again. Still, no arrow.
That's weird, I can't understand why having a gmail account would be the only criteria needed for seeing this feature.
Is it just a gmail account or any google account?
yes, just a gmail account
I think you must be in google groups to vote and comment,
when i make a comment, it shows my nickname in google groups.

I don't see an "up arrow" on my Google results page. Can you post a screenshot?
