Feng Shui Front Door Tips
Any Realtor can tell you that most houses are sold before the buyers ever step through the front door. We talk about “curb appeal”. Feng shui consultants talk about making your house welcoming to chi. Many of the tips that feng shui consultants will give you to help your home seem more welcoming are similar to those that Realtor’s will suggest to increase your home’s curb appeal. Don’t be surprised if these sound a little familiar.
- The walkway to your front door should be well marked and uncluttered.
- Paint your front door, and polish the metal hinges and hardware. Wood and metal are two of the important elements in achieving balance.
- While you’re at it, make sure that the hinges are well-oiled and that the front door opens easily and smoothly. Feng shui holds that a door that sticks and catches doesn’t open to let opportunity (and buyers) enter freely.
- Place a water feature near to the front door. Even a birdbath or small table fountain will help. The pleasant sound is soothing, and it adds the water element to the balance.
- Place a semi-circular welcome mat of strong rushes or other natural fibers in front of the door.
- Hang wind chimes somewhere close by to attract prosperity.
- Place the For Sale sign to the RIGHT side of the front door when you’re facing the house. It’s the yang side, aggressive and passionate, and will attract buyers.
Inside Feng Shui Tips
Inside your house, feng shui can suggest ways to make your home more appealing, both to chi and to buyers. Here are some specific ideas that you can use to help your house sell faster.
- Play beautiful music in the northwest corner of the house. This is the “helpful people” sector of your home. Playing music there will activate that sector and attract the right real estate agents and the right buyers.
- If your back and front doors are directly opposite each other, be sure to “interrupt” the line of sight or traffic flow. A direct path from the front to the back door allows the luck to run in one door and out the other.
- Bring light to dark corners. Use candles and mirrors to attract and reflect light in dark corners. It will make your home look bigger and brighter, and keep the chi circulating in the house.
