Santa Cruz, California is once again in the news. Local charter school Pacific Collegiate School has been named the #2 high school in the nation. Second In The Nation. Pretty heady stuff for a small town school.  Pacific Collegiate School was named to the Top 100 High Schools in the nation list by U.S. News & World Reports. The magazine lists a raft of different educational levels in this issue as being the best to consider.

Part of the key to success for the 9 year old charter school is that it has 100 % participation in advances placement programs, with an amazing 93% pass rate. The school with is located on Swift Street in the old Natural Bridges Elementary school site, was also named California Charter School of the Year for 2006.

Santa Cruz has numerous educational opportunities for the students and populace. There are many private and secular schools for parents to choose from. Also locally we have Cabrillo College, as well as the University of California, Santa Cruz. These higher educational outlets tend to reinforce the benefits of education in the quest for knowledge.

The course work is rigorous for the students and challenging for the faculty. Twenty two other California schools made the top 100. The survey data used 2005-2006 academic results from over 18,000 high schools nationally. Pacific Collegiate School serves 415 students from 7th-12th grades. The schools success is in part because the families of the students value education and encourage learning. Whether you home school, go to a public school, or private school, learning is to be encouraged and hopefully made fun. When the surf is up or the sun is out, about 300 days a year, focusing can be hard. Discipline we all know, is an ingredient to success, and these kids and the faculty are to be commended. Bravo!
