The event will be held from 11AM to 4PM, with a band, and cake after 3:15. Bring your lunchables and make it an educational day with a picnic and make learning fun for your kids. You can migrate from event to event. It should be a day of fun and cheap too, in this age of economic challenges.
The annual event is to be held at 4 local State Parks. The focus of this event will be different at each park. In the north at Henry Cowell State Park, which is located between Santa Cruz and Felton, they will focus on the diminishing steelhead trout and newts. The habitats for these oceangoing trout have been in severe decline in this county for years as have the native salmon. There is currently a big conference right now on the decline of fish in the pacific region, particularly groundfish. If you want to learn more or become an active participant to help abate the decline of these fish, go to or join one of those events.Your help and efforts are needed and appreciated.
At Natural Bridges State Park in Santa Cruz, where there are wintering grounds for the Monarch butterfly, the focus will be on the migration patterns of butterflys, birds and whales. The park located on the west side of Santa Cruz off of Swanton boulevard.
In Capitola, at the New Brighton State Beach Park, the will focus here will be on Pacific Rim migrations by people and animals over land and sea.Follow the link to learn more of Capitola, or click on the map to find directions to New Brighton Beach State Park, which is off of McGregor/Park Drive in Capitola.
In Seacliff at Seacliff State Park, they will focus on bats and birds at this park in Aptos. This is the location of the famed "Palo Alto" cement boat. Bring your pier fishing rods and enjoy the day fishing, as well.Get off at the State Park Drive exit off of highway 1 and head towards the ocean.
Either park outside and walk in or purchase a day use parking pass, good at all state parks for the day, for just $6. To find a map of these locations go to www.propertyinsantacruz.com/parks.php and click in on the map in the area you want to go to.You can get directions to which park you want.
