Capitola Begonia Festival- fun at the beach in Capitola,Ca

Capitola's annual Begonia Fesitval happens at the end of August over the labor day weekend. This is a fun family event that starts off Friday night with movies at the beach. Bring your beach chairs and sweatshirts and blankets for this fun event.

Sautrday August 30th is the always fun and creative Sand Castle competition that starts at 8:30 for registration. Be sure to have fun, bring your tools and toys to make a great scuplture and a camera in a zip lock bag to record your artful creation and those of the competition. A great family event. Judging is around noon.

For those who just wish to watch, there is plenty to look at, in addition to the Sand Castle Competition, there is the the art of young local artists on display from 9-12. For a schedule of events for the Begonia Festival follow the link.

Later in the day at 4 there is live music at the bandstand. Great time at the beach willl be had by all, so bring your picnic lunch, sunscreen, hat and water and enjoy this time rocking out.

The 31st starts the construction of the Begonia Festival Floats, which are a fun thing to watch. Sign up next year and create your own! Thes are works of art, colored with thousands of Begonia's graciously provided by the Browns, of the Brown Bulb ranch, for free,formerly located where Trader Joe's is now on Clares Street.

These beautiful flowers come in a beautiful array of colors and are meticulously placed on each float,one at a time. These floats are works of art and are a great team event. Sign up for next year.

On labor Day, September 1st this great event culminates with a row boat race on Soquel Creek, a fishing derby, and  a kids art event. What a great way to spend the weekend. Just bring enthusiasm and strong arms and enter or cheer; boats are provided. The fish have been biting, so dads bring your sons and daughters and enter this fishing derby.

Next weekend is the Capitola Art & Wine Festival, which should bring more fun at the beach in Capitola. This link has a map for parkting locations, which maybe helpful as there is virtually no parking in the village of Capitola.

Have fun and enjoy your time. Drive if you must,better to bring your bikes, sunscreen, warm and cool weather clothes, money, and your camera. This is a great event one rarely finds anywhere in the world.
