Scotts Valley Senior Center Scores : A Scotts Valley Seniors Real Estate Sp...
Scotts Valley, Ca is a nice community located about 15 minutes north of the Santa Cruz beaches in Santa Cruz, CA.Recently the Scotts Valley Senior Center held it's second annual Wine and Chocolate Festival. The day was sunny and the crowd was steady throughout the day.My date was a spry 86 year old who was not told of the surprise. She was surprised and please to learn of the wine and chocolate.
We tried the different vendors one by one. She sampling the chocolates, me the wine and chocolate pairings suggested by the winemakers. Their were about 6 wineries represented and about 10 chocolatiers. The event was a very fun affair that raised $1700 for the Scotts Valley Senior Center. As a Seniors Real Estate Specialist(SRES), supporting such an event was a…

I co-sponsored the recent Santa Cruz Seniors Symposium, which was important to me as a Seniors Real Estate Specialist. The workshop was put on by Dan Nicholas, who is a long term care insurance specialist.
The workshop was well attended as people wrestle with the huge silver tsunami that will be sweeping our generation soon. Many in the general public do not know to get this insurance, and the goverment has been doing this care in a costly manor.
For those who have older parents, the cost that you are facing for long term care are staggering and can lead to financial wipe out and destitution unless one is very well to do, or you have planned ahead and have gotten long term car insurance. The fact is many who have gotten long term care have it kick in…

As the season is upon us where we turn up our thermostats and turn to our heat sources, fire safety is of paramount concern. With the cost of heating fuel increasing and the economony sour, many will be turning to their fireplaces and wood stoves for heat. This is also the time of year that day light saving changes and the light starts getting shorter after work.
So do yourself a favor, and check your smoke detectors. If you have not replaced them in awhile, they are relatively cheap, usually under $10 each. Most 120 volt wired detectors only have about a 10 year life. They sometimes have an easy connect and disconnect plug so you don't need to turn off your circuit breakers. You should consider replacing them, but if in doubt, have an electrician replace…

No one is happy about it, but no matter how we try, our bodies eventually begin to grow old. Just because we get old, however, it does not mean we have to accept a life filled with misery. In fact, given the right location and surrounding, there is no reason why your senior years can’t be just as fulfilling as your younger years were. Not only can you find your elder years to be a very enjoyable time, when given the right location and activities, you can continue to find yourself growing closer to your family as well.
Of course, the right location to help you stay active and involved with your family would need to have pleasant weather year round, be located near places of stunning natural beauty, have a healthy climate with limited pollution, and…

Avoiding the Foreclosed Home Pet Syndrome
Saving money is something most of us like to do. Over time we realize there is a difference between cost and value. One of the things that is a joy to me and many, is friends and pets. Both can go together or be individually enjoyed.
As we age, we sometimes lose friends or a mate. It has been found that having a pet extends peoples lives and gives purpose. Many times when we lose loved ones, a part of us starts to ebb away. We need purpose in our lives to continue on. Often when a mate is lost the other can quickly lose their will to live. We have seen it time and again particularly for the much older seniors who have been together for four, five,…

National Nursing Home Week ® begins on Mother’s Day, May 11 and continues until May 18, 2008. Many nursing home residents are the people who lived and worked locally and made our community what it is.
