Esplanade at St. Johns – St. Johns County Prepares for its Newest, Multi-Use Development

Esplanade at St. Johns, a new, mixed-use development, which is set to open in 2010, is causing a buzz throughout St. Johns County.

A big surge in retail sales is expected when this St. Johns County property opens it doors in less than two years. Designed as an open-air mall (thus the name, which means “a nice place to walk”), Esplanade at St. Johns will include 1.2 million square feet of retail space along the International Parkway, near Interstate 95.

Esplanade at St. Johns will be strategically located between Jacksonville and St. Augustine and will be designed and built as an “urban village.” The center of the development will consist of a public town center that will serve as a gathering place for the surrounding communities.

Some of the features of this development will center around pedestrian traffic, trees and landscaping and an extensive use of open space, which will include fountains, outdoor performance areas, lakes and plazas.

The four divisions of Esplanade at St. Johns will include retail commercial, residential, office commercial and hotel.

The retail commercial division will feature an open-air town center mall with high-end shops and restaurants. The mall will be located on over 124 acres and boast 1.5 million square feet. An additional 30 acres and 250,000 square feet will be devoted to outparcel retail development.

The retail commercial division will include four department stores, a 16-screen movie theater, specialty anchor stores and 80 boutiques and shops.

The residential division will be situated on 169 acres, and feature 1,400 units. This development will include single-family homes, as well as condominiums and townhomes.

The office space of Esplanade at St. Johns will be situated on over 55 acres and 847,000 square feet. It will be designed as an office park.

The hotel of Esplanade at St. Johns will be situated on 20 acres and have 110 rooms.
