Easy Ways to Add More Storage to your Home

Storage space is something we all crave, but few of us have!  Adequate storage is an essential element in any Jacksonville home, yet many of us don’t know what we can do to maximize our current space and instantly create more space in the most unlikely of spaces throughout our home.

• Maximize your garage space. A garage can serve as a catchall for outdoor recreational items, off-season furniture and holiday decorations, just to name a few. These items, however, don’t have to take over the entire garage and force us to park our cars in the driveway! If you’re looking for convenient storage space in the garage, all you need to do is look up. Hanging racks overhead is a great way to store household supplies and keep them organized and easily accessible at the same time.


• Maximize your closet space. If the only thing your closet has going for it is one, lonely rod, then you’re missing out on a ton of usable storage space. Your local home improvement center will likely have a number of inexpensive, closet organization systems which are easy to install. You can create several rods, hanging at different heights, to accommodate everything from dresses to slacks to shirts, and wall cubbies to accommodate shoes, sweaters and accessories.


• Your kitchen needn’t be cramped, either. If you seem to be lacking cabinet space, consider purchasing a free-standing pantry (try a smaller, corner pantry for tight spaces). A rolling cart, with storage underneath, can serve as a center island, a workspace and a storage spot for your pots and pans.


• Maximize your attic space. If you have attic space, yet the thought of climbing up there to store and retrieve items doesn’t sound too appealing, then you might consider adding a set of attic stairs. You may also want to consider laying down plywood over the rafters in the attic, thereby increasing your overall storage space and preventing falls between the rafters.
