Cory-Merrill Real Estate ~ Denver's Favorite Neighborhoods

You can find Cory-Merrill real estate bordered by the South Platte River, Alameda Avenue, Colorado Boulevard and Yale Avenue. Once part of the town of South Denver, Cory-Merrill has a rich and interesting history, as well as plenty to offer residents today. It’s centrally located between downtown and the Tech Center, and the neighborhood enjoys light rail service, as well. As such, Cory-Merrill has long been one of Denver’s favorite neighborhoods for families.

South Denver was founded back in 1858, and was intended to be a dry town. Some of the citizens of he city didn’t like how the saloon owners seemed to have taken over Denver. In addition to Cory-Merrill, South Denver included land that later became the neighborhoods of Bonnie Brae as well as Belcaro.

In the early days, Cory-Merrill real estate was farmland, and featured cattle farms as well as orchards. In the 1940s, Cory Elementary School and Merrill Junior High were founded. The schools were named after two of Denver’s most influential educators, John Cory and Louise Merrill. This is where the neighborhood gets its name.

There are plenty of home choices in Cory-Merrill. There were homes built right after the Second World War, which are today known as Les Tremblay Small Houses. These were built by developer Les Tremblay, right near the schools. These single-story homes were the beginning of the neighborhood. While few of these homes stand today, you can find a few. There are many of these homes that have been done away with and replaced with larger Denver luxury homes, offering many amenities to families.
