Historic Mansion Preserves History While Providing Modern Amenities
Constructed in 1905 and originally known as the McPhee-McGinnity Mansion, the Parkside Mansion offers the charm of the Victorian era while still offering modern amenities and conveniences. As such, this historic structure serves as a popular choice for those who are planning special events such as weddings and business events.
While the Parkside Mansion dates back to 1905, its history can be traced back even further. In 1869, Charles D. McPhee and his wife Angela moved to the city. McPhee started a lumber company and went through several partners before partnering with John J. McGinnity in 1880. The McPhee & McGinnity Company went on to become one of the most successful businesses in the region as well as one of the largest manufacturing companies west of Chicago. The two families were also listed on the Who’s Who and Social Registry in Denver for many years. Ultimately, McPhee left his home to McGinnity, who went on to pass it on to Charles’ son, William.
Today, Parkside Mansion continues to feature towering columns in its entryway, rich paneled ceilings and arched leaded glass windows. The mansion is also ideally located across from City Park, which is the oldest and best known park in the city. As such, visitors to the mansion enjoy beautiful views of the park from the structure’s rooftop patio.
In addition to offering tours, Parkside Mansion is available for a variety of customized services and special gatherings. Common uses include cocktail parties, luncheons, business meetings, wedding and simple after work get-togethers. With its many comfortable sitting rooms, the Parkside Mansion offers several options for those who are planning a special event or gathering. The main parlor, which is located just inside the front door, offers the perfect location for greeting and registering guests. The main stairway, on the other hand, serves as the ideal spot for photographs, particularly for bridal parties and other special occasions. Meanwhile, the main ballroom can accommodate large groups and sit-down dinners with up to 150 guests or business meetings with up to 200 people.
The many extra rooms available in the Parkside Mansion help ensure all occasions are truly special. The main ballroom, for example, features a 1900s bar that serves as an excellent gathering spot. The rooftop garden, on the other hand, provides the perfect backdrop for weddings or simply as a lovely overlook for any special event. The mansion also houses a room known as the “Groom’s Room,” which is a cozy sitting room in the upper level. Several additional private rooms can also be found on the second floor, providing plenty of privacy for wedding parties to get dressed or for small meetings to take place.
