Seattle Real Estate: Going Green in Seattle Neighborhoods and now the Seattle Suburbs

What are you doing to live a little greener? 

Seattle neighborhoods have been putting food scraps in the green lawn bin for quite some time and beginning late last year, many Seattle suburbs started offering this great service, too!  Being able to put food scraps in the lawn bin has a huge impact on the environment!  The sheer volume of garbage reduced by this great service is only the beginning, but a giant step in lowering the amount of waste. 

Here is the cool part!

The really great part about the green bin is that besides the lawn waste, other things that can't go in the recycling bins can go here, too.  The shredded paper from the shredding machine can not go in the normal recycling in because the fibers have been cut to short to make it valuable as recycled paper, but it can go in the green bin!  They like to have it bagged up like lawn clippings and then placed in the green bin.  Paper plates, napkins, and paper towels can also go in this bin.  Chinese take out cartons can go in there, too - anything paper based - even covered in food can go in there!  The biggest improvement with this system???  PIZZA BOXES!  Yes, you can put the pizza boxes in this green bin!
