The HWY 97 Re-route Project in Redmond is Nearing Completion
ODOT, (Oregon Department of Transportation) is finishing up the final touches on the HWY 97 re-route project in Redmond. The re-route project should free up Redmond traffic tremendously. The project includes a parkway similar to Bend’s parkway. Drivers will now have the option to bypass downtown Redmond.
The project is scheduled to be completed this weekend. If weather allows, the northbound lanes will open of for a trial by pedestrians and cyclists on Sat. from 10 am to 2 pm. The lanes will then open to automobile traffic on Monday. The southbound lanes are slated to open on May 12th.

This bypass will be great for Downtown Redmond. Through traffic will avoid the downtown area, freeing up traffic and congestion. Downtown Redmond will be more “pedestrian friendly”, and more inviting for tourists. The project is nearing completion.
With the traffic problem solved, the Redmond real estate market could benefit in the long run. Potential home buyers could be drawn to the “new downtown” atmosphere.

I agree. The speed limit is a bit slow. Hopefully they'll change it when its completely done. I've seen cops sitting at the North end of it almost every time I've been on it. GO THE SPEED LIMIT!

I agree: the 35mph limit is absurd! Driving thru, there appears to be no reason for this except to tempt drivers to speed.

What's with the 35 mph speed for miles on this new "bypass"? From the sounds of the locals I know, they warned me to go the SPEED along this FREEWAY till I got to my turnoff north of town! Told me about the cost of going speeds of 5 to 20 plus miles over. Sounds like the town coffers will be getting richer on this ridiculous (hopefully temporary) bypass speed limit.
KMR reports a number cars ending in their lot N of town, due to the speed limit.
What's up Redmond?
I'm an out of towner who looked forward to the change and now wonders why?
