Portland is the king of "green building", but we're not far behind them in Bend.

Going green is becoming more and more popular among home buyers in the Northwest.  Portland is home to more accredited LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) projects than most (if not all) other cities in the United States.  Here in Bend, Green building is a fast growing trend as well.

What is green building?

Green building is described as a building practice that uses healthier building practices that are more resource-efficient.  The main features of a green home are:

  • Energy Efficiency-  Using Energy Star Appliances and Windows, Insulating properly, and using efficient heating and cooling methods
  • Environmentally Healthy Products- Using recycled products
  • Water Efficiency- Using less water by using appliances that waste less water and instant hot water heaters
  • Air Quality- Homes should be built to block Radon and other toxins from entering
  • Toxin Reduction- Using products that have less or no toxins
  • Reduction in Waste- Recycling construction materials and using natural landscaping

Green building is a great way to reduce energy consumption in our homes. But what do you do if you have an existing home? On thing to do is test and seal your heating ducts. The U.S. Department of Energy says the typical duct system loses 25% to 40% of the energy that goes through them because of leaks.

We have stepped up to do something about this widespread problem by partnering with the Energy Trust of Oregon and the Oregon Department of Energy to offer Central Oregon homeowners cas incentives and tax credits to pay for 100% of the cost to test and seal your ducts.

Reduce your energy consumption, save money and improve your home for free...Call us at AccuAir heating and Cooling to find out more. 541-504-8400 www.accuairheat.com
