Golden Gate Golf announced last Wednesday that they entered into a contract to buy the 2 struggling golf courses from Arrowcreek Golf Holdings. They held a town hall type meeting last Thursday and will be holding another tonight (October 6, 2008) at 6 pm to discuss ideas of how to make the public course more accessible.
Golden Gate Golf is owned and operated by Charlie Leder and Bob Bowker. Leder is a professional golfer and has been a past president of the PGA. Bowker operates Pajaro Valley Golf Club in Royal Oaks, California.

This weekend on Sunday from 1-4 there will be approx. 40 open houses throughout the Somersett master planned community in the western foothills of Reno. A lot of the homes will be featured on the Dickson Realty Real Estate today show that will also air 12 times this weekend. The listing agents in Somersett have organized to have almost half of every home on the market in Somerett open this weekend.
There will be maps available at the town center of all the open houses or you can go to www.somersettrealestate.com to download a map and list of all the open houses.

Club Corp and their affiliates owns or operates 170 clubs around the country and for approx. the last 12 months have been in negotiations with Terrabrook, the developer owner of the two courses at Arrowcreek. Arrowcreek has been operating at a $2 million a year loss and Club Corp was going to be their saviour, until 10:30 am last Thursday when they pulled out of the deal.
Earlier this year this year Club Corp wanted members of the golf club to have access to the residents pool. It seems from the other clubs around town that if you join a country club you should have access to a pool, (Somersett, Hidden Valley, Montreux, Red Hawk) but for some reason the non golfing residents had a different view and organized an effort to defeat the proposal.

Hot August Nights In Reno
For the 22nd year the celebration of the 50's and 60's will be in Reno attracting over 800,000 people. With an economic impact of $351 million dollars to the Reno Sparks economy, this is one of the most successful annual events anywhere. Some of the events include a prom, show and shine of cars, plus the always popular Saturday night cruise that will take place at the Grand Sierra Resort.
Some of the entertainers will be Davey Jones of the Monkees, Blood Sweat and Tears plus Peter Noone of Hermans Hermits. Mario Andretti will also be here signing autographs.
The event runs from August 1 to August 10 and the annual tribute to music, cars and culture will be broadcast on Fox Sports.

With the gas prices as high as they are, most of the Reno residents are staying put for the Memorial Day weekend. There are so many different things to do and a lot of events that are going on in Reno – who needs to go out of town.
There are 187 parks in the Washoe County area. The Sparks Marina is a popular place to hit the beach for some family fun. Swimming, non-motor boating and they have stocked the lake with rainbow trout and catfish for the avid fishermen. The Ski Tavern ski area has been transformed for the summer into biking and mountain biking trails.
