On Friday June 27 there will be a sealed bid auction for six upscale custom homes that were built on speculation by Sage Crest and Knotty Bear builders. The current prices for the homes range from about $1,350,000 to over 2 million dollars and square footages range from 4000 to over 6200. They do have some of the most spectacular views of any homes in Somersett and the quality of construction is as good as any in Washoe County. With that being said, it begs the question, "What were these builders thinking", building 6 million dollar and up homes on speculation in this current market? That takes some serious you know whats.

Last Wednesday Somersett held its first Farmers Market and what a great success it was. I don’t think anyone knew it was going to be this successful. Over 500 people attended this great event and you can bet it will only get bigger.   There were about 10 vendors set up in the Town Square with fruits, vegetables, pasta, wine and jewelry. There was even a chair massage person there.   Rusty Strings was the live band playing Tahoe bluegrass while children danced around while their parents chatted with neighbors and enjoyed the music.    The parking lot was full and Somersett’s own Roundabout Market ran out of their fabulous fish tacos towards the end of the night.    I can’t wait to see what next Wednesday’s market brings. From what I hear they are… Read Full Post

With over 300 earth quakes in the last 60 days, you can see why the residents of Reno and Sparks are a little on edge. The swarm of quakes has been centered on the west end of town in the Mogul - Somersett area. So far the biggest one was a 4.7 last Friday night, wreaking havoc on the shelf items in grocery stores. One of the biggest hit was Whispering Vine wine shop in Somersett.  They lost over 300 bottles of wine.

Most residents did experience some varying degree of damage from pictures falling to a lot of cracks in sheet rock. This will give Somersett residents another way to get in and out of the development, it will extend through the Del Webb Sierra Canyon neighborhood and come out on the old highway 40 in Verdi. The traffic in Somersett is predicted to triple over the next two decades and this should alleviate some of the congestion. The current traffic volume on Highway 40 is 6,000 trips a day and will go to 18,000 by 2030. This is not good news to some of the residents in Mogul and Verdi who think it will be a recipe for disaster without improvements to connecting roads. If you have concerns you can contact the Verdi Township citizen’s Advisory board and voice your concerns.
