The Village Feast, August 25, 2007 Davis CA

The 2007 Village Feast, will be held this Saturday at Noon at Community Park in Davis.  The event coincides with the weekly Saturday Farmers' market.

 The feast is a  Slow Food Yolo  event, one of several the organization holds  throughout the year.  The meal  starts at noon with an aperitif, followed by lunch at 12:30 p.m. There will be approximately  300 people seated at one grand table under the shade of the Sycamore trees.  People attending are expected to bring their own plates and utensils and are asked not to bring plastic or paper products.

The slow food movement emphasizes not rushing through a meal, sitting down, eating freshly prepared food and enjoying the process vs. eating pre-prepared food thrown together while rushing to get from one place to another. 

The menu is full of vegetables in season such as green beans, beets, olive oil from local olive trees, roasted red peppers, eggplant and squash.  The meals main course will feature wild California salmon.  Desert will be tarts made from locally grown summer fruits.    In addition there is a silent auction with items including  a trip to Provence France, several cookbooks and dinners at local restaurants.

The feast is a benefit for the Davis Farm to School Connection.  This program helps support student gardens and provides the funds for  Davis  second graders to visit local organic farms that supply food to the local schools.

There are still a  few tickets left and can be purchased by calling 530-220-2394.  Tickets are $55 for Sow Food Yolo members and $65  for non members.
