Thinking about visiting REW headquarters in beautiful Nanaimo?

You don’t have to wait for a possible conference next year to visit REW and I’m sure the staff would love to have a pizza day with you. Real Estate Webmasters is located in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island, just across the bay from Vancouver, Brittish Columbia. Getting to Nanaimo takes a little more thought for us in the States than just jumping on a non-stop flight to someplace like Vegas, but with a few helpful tips it doesn’t have to be a big ordeal.
- Get a passport: Currently, you can fly to Seattle and take a ferry to Victoria with just photo identification and a birth certificate but this is on the way out soon. Get a passport; you will have more options. Passports are generally good for ten years. Just think of all the trips you will be taking to the far reaches of the globe once you have achieved world wide web domination. You are going to need a passport.
- Chose your preferred method of getting to the island; sea plane, ferry or airplane.
- Accommodations: My recommendation would be to stay in one of the two hotels downtown, walking distance from REW headquarters and the conference center. Either the Coast Bastion Hotel or the Best Western Dorchester. A number of people from this year’s conference stayed at the Coast and some had small balconies that overlooked the harbor. I stayed at the Dorchester on the top floor and also had a great view of the harbor, watched the sea planes come in and enjoyed the sunrises. I believe I was the only one from the conference at the Dorchester and I would not hesitate to stay there again. How many times are you going to be staying in Nanaimo? Take the opportunity to stay in a beautiful place.
- Money:. As of right now, Canadians will take US currency, no questions asked. You don’t have to make an effort to get Canadian money before getting to Nanaimo (of course this could change if the global or US economy worsen). Canada also has cool one dollar and two dollar coins.
- Tipping: It’s just like in the States. 15 to 20% at restaurants is normal to tip your wait staff.
- Places to eat: Definitely the Keg. I only had a salad but I guess I missed something called a bleu cheese fillet? There is a nice Thai restaurant across the street from the conference center and the Lighthouse restaurant has beautiful views of the harbor and you can watch the seaplanes land. These are all walking distance from REW headquarters and the conference center. I am sure there are many other nice places to eat in town.

Carolyn, great article and we really enjoyed meeting you there. We also really enjoyed pizza day and I recommend anyone visiting REW to do the same. It's a great way to get a chance to meet the staff in a very positive way.
I just want to add that if you are within driving distance another nice option to get to Nanaimo is driving to Port Angeles, WA, spend a little time exploring the Olympic National Park in Washington and then Ferry over to Victoria and drive to Nanaimo. That is the way we went up there and it is a beautiful drive.
The Keg is definitely a great place to eat and right next door to REW. The bleu cheese filet is awesome. I can't wait to go back.
