10 Reasons to relocate to Eau Claire, Wisconsin

Ok, so I know “top 10” lists are dead. But I need to get this blog rolling with a topic, so I thought I would write about something I know well. Following are just some thoughts on why I think Eau Claire is a great place to be.

1. Eau Claire, a city of about 65,000 people, has 19 parks covering over 2200 acres and 80 miles of trails. Two major rivers, the Eau Claire and the Chippewa, convene downtown. It is an ideal mixture of urban and rural.

2. Housing and rent are very affordable. The average home in Eau Claire sold for around $140,000 in 2006.

3. Our public schools are excellent. Wisconsin average ACT scores are always in the top 3 nationally, and Eau Claire students’ average score of 22.5 tops the Wisconsin average of 22.1.

4. Strong community neighborhoods such as the Historic Randall Park Neighborhood, the Third Ward, and the East Hill Neighborhood. These will be covered in future blog entries.

5. Eau Claire is home to Menard’s, National Presto Industries, Phillips Plastics, and other industries. Eau Claire is conveniently located on Interstate 94 about 80 miles East of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota.

6. Extremely low rates of violent and property crimes

7. Eau Claire is a great place to raise a family. It has been named one of America’s Promise 100 Best Communities for Young People (see link below). This distinction honors communities for their commitment to provide healthy, safe, and caring environments for young people.

8. High quality health care. Three of Eau Claire’s six largest employers are hospitals or clinics.

9. We have four distinct seasons. Yes, the winters can be long, but that just makes us appreciate spring that much more. Cold winters also help to keep the whiners out!

10. Add all these things up and you get a great quality of life.
