General Electric, one of Greenville's largest employers, has announced they will be adding 200 new engineers this year which is in addition to the 300 they added in 2007. These new positions will range in salary from $55,000 to over $100,000 per year. These 200 new positions will push the total number of Greenville based GE employees to over 3,150 and set a new record for their total employment here.

The Greenville based division of General Electric focuses on the energy field and manufactures turbines used in energy production around the world. Greenville: The Week In Review

    photo Eddy Kicker

This past Saturday the State of South Carolina held the Republican Presidential Primary. This meant the week leading up to the primary was an all out blitz by the Republican candidates. They all made use of extensive television ads and annoying telephone calls throughout the week. One day alone we had 10 calls at my home encouraging us to vote for their candidate. Now that the Republicans are off to Florida for the next primary, we have the Democrats heading to the state for their Primary which will be January 26th. Thank goodness for caller ID to help monitor the calls.

A welcome break from all the political activity occurred on Thursday when we had our first snow of the winter. In the south it doesn't take much snow for the kids to get excited and for…

    Greenville Market Performance

    photo Eddy Kicker

Every day the newspapers and television reports flood us with negative information about the nation's housing market.  Proclamations about falling housing values and the extended time it is taking to get homes sold.  It's enough to make many consumers nervous and want to throw their arms up in frustration.

The Greenville South Carolina real estate market continues to contradict these national trends. Average annual appreciation in our area is a healthy 3-5% which has kept our market insulated from falling prices seen in markets that have until recently had unrealistic appreciation.  Below is information about our market so far this year compared to the same time period from…

    Greenville SC Home Buyer Questions

    photo Eddy Kicker

When I meet with my Greenville SC home buyer clients, they normally have a variety of questions concerning purchasing a home here.  There are 2 questions that almost every buyer wants to know the answer to.

  • Do sellers here negotiate with the price they are asking for their home?  The short answer is Yes.  Homes in our area sell for an average of 97% of the asking price, so that is 3% off the asking price. Each transaction obviously is different and depends on a number of variables. Is the home vacant, does the buyer have contingencies in the contract, is it a quick close etc.
  • How long do homes stay on the market here? Through the first 11 months of 2007 our average days from listing of the home to closing date was 84 days. This number has…

Greenville SC Gets Early Christmas Present

    photo Eddy Kicker

Those of us living in Greenville South Carolina, are prone to take our wonderful weather for granted. Our normal high temperatures for this time in December are in the mid-50's. This weekend we were blessed with highs in the mid-70's and these same temperatures are forecasted for most of the week. The higher temps got people outside and doing more than Christmas shopping. The motorcycle riders, walkers, bicycle riders all were out in full force soaking up and enjoying the weather that was our early Christmas present.

My wife and I decided to drive up to Paris Mountain State Park which is just 10 minutes from downtown Greenville.  This 1500 acre park has walking trails, biking trails, a lake, campgrounds, picnic shelters and more. The park was founded in…
