My New Years Resolutions. (Mid January edition)

Yeah...I know it is a bit late to be posting more New Years resolutions. (It is January 14th) But the truth of the matter is that I have been swamped with things to do, client work, my work at the office, and all sorts of other stuff.

So here goes for my January 15th edition of positive change I am going to create in 2009.

Spend more time with Family

This tops my list for 2009. 2008 was a great year, but with the growth, learning and fun, I woke up and realized that my kids are aged 10-17 and the two oldest are both over 6 feet tall. Yikes. Time to spend time with them while I can.

Concentrate my Writing Time to Friends, Family, Client work, and Important Projects

If there is anything that I have learned in the past years of writing stuff online, it is that it can consume you. It is easy to get caught up in the "thick of thin things". What I love doing the most with my writing is helping people, so I am going to return to the places that I love to write the most:

My blog (about SEO) - That is where I have the most writing fun.

REW. (Look out. You are going to see a little bit more of my posts here. ;-) ) I am going to contribute more to the community and give back for what I have gotten.

BHB. (Going to keep contributing there.)

With my family about Autism (and the book). BIG project to finish in 2009. Lots of dads to help there.

My other blogs. (I am going to get some of these underway or delete them and move on.

I am going to limit my writing to some of those venues and stop being all things to all people. Quality over quantity.

Focus more on teaching and coaching.

I love teaching people, coaching them and watching them succeed. That is where I am in my element. I am going to do more of that. (at least I have a good start at that. I will be doing a webinar on Friday with the eHomesRealty Network on SEO (its free if you want to sign up--and yes I will be glossing / talking about REW a little ;-) ) and going to teach at BHB Unchained in Phoenix.

I am going to do more of those types of webinars / classes (many will be outside of real estate).

BTW- Teaching is different than giving away secrets. (Heck, anyone can do that.) Teaching is helping people to understand the basic principles and truths of something AND inspiring them to APPLY it. Coaching is motivating them to stick to that plan.

That is my goal. To teach and coach.

Help my friends more.

One of the cool things about connecting with friends on Facebook (that you have not talked to in forever) is that you realize how much they mean and yet you have let the years slip away.

There are people in the REW community, among many others that I vow to keep up with and stay in contact with, so I never lose touch and have to come back and "friend" on Facebook when we should have STAYED friends in the first place.

Treat my business more as a business

(Morgan, I know you are laughing if you read this.) Time to treat my business like a business more. I won't go into a great deal here, but the hardest part about doing what you love is (for me) is that running it like a business is a distraction. This year, I get things to where I get to do what I love, get compensated fairly, and don't let it run me.

Ok, that about does it.

Here's wishing you a great 2009 as well!

Eric

And for Pete's sake, take a newer / better photo! You are way better looking than that bunch of pixels up there my friend

Photo's aside - we love you for being a great and trustworthy friend Eric - for your words, for your teachings and for the honor of learning from us and being thankful (this is a strength few possess) I for one look forward (selfishly) to benefitting more from your contributions. Cheesy line from as good as it gets "You make me wanna be a better man" Eric, looking forward to a great 09

Yeah...I suppose I do need a new photo! (will get a good one...it's on the to do list)

Thanks for the kind words...

Morgan, I wish people could see how many people got their start in being web savvy hanging out with you..would be a long list, bro.

BTW- Some of the folks who are out there with LEC's are getting some NICE results...impressive. Really fun stuff to see. Nice work on those. Picking up better and more longtail rankings and traffic by the day...with better content to convert with at the same time. Truly nice stuff.

Eric:

Looking forward to more activity from you on REW.  There are a few people that I count on to insure that I'm not falling too far behind the curve on SEO.  You are one of them.  Wish I could get to BHB Unchained in Phoenix. Will follow all the happenings via blogs, I guess.
