Do-Follow Blog Commenting: Build On-Topic Backlinks

I'll admit...I got into the blogging thing pretty late.  In fact, I used to think that blogging was a horrendous waste of time - for the most part, because 95% of the blogs out there automatically tag their comments with the "rel=nofollow" - which strips the link juice from any comments you leave on your friends' pages.  In fact, WordPress, one of the most popular blogging platforms around, is installed with the nofollow as a default setting - and there's no way to change it in the "stock" backend of the program!

So...I'm backlink greedy - so what!  I like to make sure that my activities online are proactive in that they build relationships - and they build backlinks.  And it was exactly this backlink-lust that finally got me into the blogosphere.  Ryan Ward posted a fantastic list of plug-ins a while back, and I one of them really piqued my interest: Do-Follow.  I looked into it, and then googled "do-follow blogs."

Apparently, there is an underground movement that strives to do away with the "rel=nofollow" tag on blogs, and bring back the love (the link love, that is!)  So...the do-follow movement got me into blogging.  I started by visiting a few do-follow blog lists...but the topics didn't interest me (and the backlinks weren't on-topic!)  So, I started combing the web for  do-follow RE blogs & found quite a few.  I then created my own do-follow blog - and started putting together a list of my own do-follow real estate blogs.

Do-follow blogs are great because they allow you to build online relationships, have fun, learn others opinions, and still get the credit for the backlinks.  There are a few pitfalls that I'll discuss later - and if you start your own do-follow blog, you'll want to make sure to watch out for a few things, as well.  When you do comment on do-follow blogs, make sure to read the rules first - many bloggers are very particular about types of comments & keyword stuffing.  But check out some great blogs on the do-follow list - you'll be rewarded with more than just backlinks!

Long time WP user but I did not realize no follow was the default. I'll be changing that ASAP. Thanks for the info!

No problem! I recommend Lucia's Linky Love http://money.bigbucksblogger.com/lucias-linky-love-a-dofollow-plugin-to-foil-human-comment-spammers/ as a great do-follow plug-in. It's much more flexible than the others. Let me know when you go do-follow, and I'll ad you to my list, if you like!
