DFW Airport May be Going to the Dogs

A new project is being proposed for the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport that would make traveling a lot more convenient for pet owners. Right now, the airport is searching for a two to three acre parcel of prime real estate to use for a new pet resort.

The plans were announced for the first time at the 2008 Airport Revenue Conference & Exhibition, held at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine. Part of the land owned by the DFW Airport is in Grapevine, and the prosperity of pet services near the area could lead to new uses for Grapevine real estate.

A Place to Pamper Pets

The project is still in the idea phase, but could include such amenities as large outdoor play areas and even a dog bone-shaped swimming pool. Having a pet resort located at the airport would offer tremendous convenience for residents in the surrounding communities who travel but must attend to the needs of their pets while they are away.

Several other airports have already begun offering on-site pet care, including Houston Hobby, Denver, New Orleans, and Jacksonville. Over the past few years, pet boarding at or near the airport has grown in popularity, and the area near the airport has become increasingly attractive to those who seek to open pet-related businesses.
