Old Hickory lake in Nashville Tennessee looks more like a river when you look at it on a map. Its a long winding lake and as a result has created an abundance of lakefront homes.

In the late 60's the Corp of Army Engineers decided to dam the Cumberland river and created Old Hickory lake.  As a result the newly;y created lake lots attracted the buyers with the money to build lake homes and in the 70's this tended to be the country music starts such as Jonny Cash and Roy Orbison. Unfortunately Jonny Cash's house burnt down after being bought for 2.5 million dollars by Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees.

I recently sold a home two doors down for just under $2 million so the investment made by Barry Gibb will repay itself but the legend can never be replaced.

The development of golf course communities on Old Hickory lake in Gallatin have broadened the appeal of lake front homes. Fairvue Plantation is a golf course community that also features lake front homes and has become known asn Nashvilles north shore.

As the access to Hendersonville and Gallatin has been enhanced in the last year or so with the extension of Vietnam Veterens Expressway.  The appeal to Nashvilles residents who want to live on the lake and play golf in their own back yard with out having a major commute is now a reality.
