Nashville Lakefront Homes on Old Hickory Lake

Because of its close proximity to Metropolitan Nashville, Old Hickory Lake attracts millions of visitors each year. It offers a variety of outdoor recreational activities, including fishing, camping, hiking, picnicking, water skiing, and boating and has become one of the most deirable location for a home.
On any given day, all types of watercraft can be spotted on the lake, including fishing boats, sailboats, pleasure boats, jet skis and commercial barges.
Construction on Old Hickory Dam began in 1952 by the United States Army Corps of Engineers and was completed in 1954. To do this day the Corp owns the land around the edge of the lake and they are responsible for issuing dock permits to the home owners and they can fine anyone cutting down trees to improve their lake view!
Surrounding Counties
Old Hickory Lake is surrounded by five Tennessee counties: Davidson, Sumner, Wilson, Trousdale, and Smith, and includes the cities of Hermitage, Mt. Juliet, Lebanon, Hendersonville, and Gallatin, among others.
The lake encompasses 22,000 acres, with 440 miles of shoreline.
Marinas
Eight marinas are located on Old Hickory: Creekwood Marina, Drakes Creek Marina (http://www.drakescreekmarine.com), and Anchor High Marina (http://www.anchorhighmarina.com) in Hendersonville; Cedar Creek Marina in Mt. Juliet; Gallatin Marina in Gallatin; Old Hickory Marina in Old Hickory; Shady Cove Resort in Castalian Springs; and Cherokee Resort in Lebanon.
Public Access to the Lake
There are also approximately nine fishing docks and some 56 boat ramps. These ramps are often close to restuarants and communities so you can relax on the lake during the day and then come back to a sumptous feast at places like Cherokee Steak house.
Nature lovers and photographers can enjoy the numerous species of wild life, water fowl and wading birds that make Old Hickory Lake area their home.
There are some truly beautiful homes located on Old Hickory Lake, many with private docks or available dock permits, or within a short distance to a public marina with available dock slips.
