MRIS’ new “Viral” Marketing Strategy
Posted Jun 30, 2008 @ 7:24 pm, Viewed by 399 Visitors, Read 428 Times.First confession – I’m a member of MRIS (don’t blame me, it’s not like I had a choice). Second confession – I’m not sure what MRIS has done for me (except perhaps make my job harder). MRIS is a microcosm of what happens when a company gets too large. It becomes bureaucratic, short-sighted and even manages to forget about the desires of its customers.
I can save you the gory details, but suffice it to say that unless you’re a true comic book lover, it’s hard to appreciate this latest endeavor (especially since, as a dues paying member of MRIS, I’m surely footing the bill for some of this). I’d argue that some of their content (the importance of accurate IDX feeds vs. the Trulias of the world) is valid. But if they truly believe what they’re preaching, then why did it take them nearly two months to give me “permission” to receive a feed for a custom IDX? And why the reduced, yet still excessive developer fees? Could it be that MRIS cares about delivering accurate information only as long as you’re using their IDX solution? And using a superhero to “push" their mysterious new product? I almost feel violated it's so patronising :-)
I’m sure MR. IS will be around for a while, with many new adventures to come. But I fear that if you take off his mask, you’ll find that what lies underneath is a fairly ordinary chap lacking in substance.

Yeah, you paid for "MR. IS's" leg! How absurd is that? And yes, they use most of "our" money goes to MARKET the sub-mediocrity. Just like the telecoms we all hate who spend millions on the commercials. It's actually a decent analogy because a lot of us can't choose what company we have use if we want Internet and cable. Hmmm, the link...remove it out of principle and just give the url? - Kevin
MRIS sucks..the tokens (I have had several break on me to be sent new ones that are broken upon receipt) . ..I have been on the phone with them since 8:30 this am to correct an error that my five year old could point out...six people later, it still hasn't been corrected....I have to take my son for his driver's license tomorrow and I am pretty sure I will find the MVA to be a pleasant experience after my day with MRIS.
I know how frustrating those experiences are and I feel for you...and I share your frustrations! Did you notice that MRIS is coming out with a "re-designed token". More $ from us to them...for their "missteps".

Well they definitely got your attention (And link) - so the viral thing is working (Probably not the response they expected) - As a newly crowned "Vendor" (I think some of my $ went towards funding the cartoon as well) I have to say it really sucks to have to compete against the very same entity I am proving MLS technology for - Roadblock after roadblock for the vendor, yet a ton of effort spent on promoting (Not to be read as improving) thier own product.
