Kensington MD Real Estate
Kensington is an incorporated town, located in Montgomery County, just northeast of Bethesda. Although the town has a total area of only 0.5 square miles, the Kensington zip code services a much larger area.
Kensington was primarily an agricultural community until 1873, when the B&O Railroad arrived. In the early 1890s, a Washington, D.C. developer, Brainard Warner, started buying land to develop a planned Victorian community that eventually included a church and a library. He brought the name Kensington from a visit to London. Initially Kensington was a summer refuge for Washington, D.C., residents wishing to escape the capital's humid summers…but eventually evolved into a commuter suburb. Warner’s original community remains and is in a protected historic area.
Kensington is known for its community spirit and the many community events that bring its residents together. The 4th of July Parade and December Holiday Parade are just two of the times that neighbors join in for fun!!
