Ft. Myers Beach 21st Annual Sand Sculpting Festival
Posted Nov 9, 2007 @ 1:59 pm, Viewed by 1064 Visitors, Read 1082 Times. If you're looking for something "out of the ordinary", and fun to do this weekend, head on over to Ft. Myers Beach for the 21st Annual American Sand Sculpting Championship. The event runs through Sunday and features some of the top sand sculptors from around the world. But, get there early as the festival is expected to draw over 70,000 visitors.
This year's championship will feature eighteen master carvers, 10 semi-pro carvers and roughly 30 amateurs all showing off their unique abilities for making masterpieces out of the soft white sand. Many travel here year after year as The Beach's white sands are considered to be the best in the world to compete with. Top prize for the competing masters is $3000, but bragging rights typically are more important than the cash winnings.
With the weathermen predicting nearly perfect weather (sunny skies, no humidity and 80 degree temperatures) for the weekend, it is a wonderful opportunity to bring the family for a great afternoon. The kid's can play in the sand, mom and dad can relax and the sand sculpting artwork is simply astonishing. Its part of what living in Southwest Florida is all about.
