Geist Loses Big Decision in Annnexation Battle

Geist has lost the first major battle in a war against the annexation by the town of Fishers.  In a recent ruling, a Hamilton County judge ruled that Fishers could go ahead with its efforts to annex 2,200 Geist homes which effectively squashed their attempts to incorporate as two new towns: East and West Geist.

Now the real battle ensues and this one could be lengthy and very expensive for both parties involved.  Geist homeowners estimate that they will need to raise at least $200,000 to cover their legal expenses.  Obviously, Fishers has deeper pockets but they must determine at what point it makes fiscal sense to pursue this annexation.

I would not expect this one to be resolved anytime soon but I definitely keep my eye on any developments.  While I refuse to take sides on this one, I do think Fishers real estate stands to benefit in the increase in tax revenue.  However, I also think that Geist homeowners would benefit with lower taxes and ultimately higher appreciation if are eventually successful in creating East and West Geist.

Actually you are wrong in stating Geist loses big. Geist only lost in forming a new Town and the annexation battle continues. In the long run, I believe Fishers will be the real loser, even if they win. The people who live in Geist will continue to fight even after any annexation and insure that all of those on the council are driven from office. Further new bills are being introduced next week to stop forced annexation in the entire state. Fishers is showing its true colors of a government that does not care one bit about people. Donald T would love them because its all about the money and nothing else.

Bagel, you really sound informed about this subject and judging by you knowledge I guess you are intimately involved in this battle. I am not going to pretend I know all the details about this annexation fight, but from a real estate perspective I think Geist residents would have won huge if they were able to incorporate into East and West Geist. Kudos to you for fighting Fishers, I truly hope you win.

I do agree a new town would be the best and the town of Geist as one would have been even better. But the Fishers Town Council has no regard for citizens and will do anything to fight this to the end. The new Bill that was introduced would stop bad governments like Fishers from trying to just take over other people against their will. You should dig deeper into Fishers to see how bad their government leaders are, better yet donate money to the fight against them.I understand the Geist United Opposition is going to allow businesses to advertise via donations to help the Geist area to fight.

Thanks for heads up about the advertisement, I will look into this. This seems like a win-win, gain exposure plus support a good cause. Good luck with your fight, I am sure I will be commenting on it in the near future.
