IndyGo Commuter Express

IndyGo will soon be adding an express commuter bus that will shuttle people from Carmel to downtown Indianapolis during rush hour.  IndyGo recently launched the same service for Fishers and have had an outstanding response with 11,000 riders since the October launch.  The routes for the Carmel shuttle are still being finalized, but the system is scheduled to commence mid-January.  The tentative route for Carmel will depart from somewhere near Carmel Drive and Pennsylvania and will make the same 6 stops in Indianapolis that the Fishers bus does.  Officials for IndyGo are also looking at adding a third route in either Hendricks or Johnson County.  The buses leave every 30 minutes from 6:00 A.M. to 8:30 A.M, returning from 4:15 P.M. to 6:15 P.M., and cost $2 per ride.

Normally I am very leery about public transportation because I feel for the most part people are just unwilling to give up the freedom of their cars even though they know it is a better option.  However, I think the timing might be right for something like this.  Carmel real estate and Fishers real estate are two of the most desirable markets in the area and Hamilton County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state and the nation.  The increase in population, increase in commute times, and constantly increasing gas prices just might be enough of an impetus to get a different crowd of people to use public transportation.

So instead of getting fighting the traffic and getting road rage every morning and evening, why not try the IndyGo Commuter Express buses?  You can bring your laptop along and get a little more work done while someone else deals with the traffic.  If they are smart, they will start adding free WI-FI to the buses as an extra added allure.

I currently catch IndyGo bus #18 at 91st and Meridian, daily. Great service!!! But, I am a Carmel resident and ready for the Carmel express to start. Many other Carmel residents who work downtown share my thoughts. Please reply with more information...start date, exact pick-up location (Meijer's parking lot???) and other related info. Thanks!!!
