New Fishers Downtown Proposed

Fishers has taken the first step to redevelop the aging downtown area along 116th street.  Right now it is just a concept, but the Town Council did give preliminary approval to rebuild downtown with Fairmount properties of Ohio.  The $100 million dollar project would cover about 70 acres on either side of 116th street and would require several homes and businesses be bought to make way for the project.

This is far from a reality but the developer has an initial proposal of 250,000 square feet of office space, 155,000 square feet of retail, 100 – 200 apartments, and 40 – 50 town homes.  The plan also might include a hotel if the demand can warrant it.  The whole development will be centered around a 2,000 square foot outdoor pavilion, which would be…

Fishers Residents - Answer Your Door

photo Indy Realtor

Due to Fisher’s population boom, the town of Fishers has ordered a special census to count every single resident in the city.  For the second time since 2000, Fishers thinks it needs to recount the population in order to capture a higher percentage of the state taxes.  The higher the population is, the more Fishers gets in state taxes; if their estimates are correct they think the population has risen to 62,000 which would mean an additional $1.2 per year in state taxes.  The cost of the recount is $565,000, but as you can clearly see this will easily pay for itself within the first year.

Although it seems a little archaic, they are actually going to every single door of every single home to count the population.  They will visit each house three… Read Full Post

Geist Vs. Fishers - Round 2

photo Indy Realtor

In a bold move to fight the town of Fishers annexing them, Geist residents have filed 273 petitions with Hamilton County to become the towns of East and West Geist.  If this measure gets approved, the two new towns could be incorporated as early as November 2007.

Although I think one Geist would be better than two, earlier this year the town of Fishers annexed the lake bottom of Geist reservoir and forced Geist residents to incorporate into the two separate towns.  Geist residents estimate that they will be able to save as much as 20% in property taxes with no loss of services.

If you would like to voice your concern or show your support for this measure, you should attend the County Commissioners meeting on 9/24 at 2PM the Judicial Building in…

Fishers Vs. Geist - Annexation Battle Round 1

photo Indy Realtor

The Town of Fishers sweetened the pot in its attempt to annex 22 Geist area neighborhoods.  The letter was sent out Tuesday and was really just putting on paper what they had already talked about with the area’s homeowners.  The town is currently pursuing a voluntary “unification” with Fishers and the Geist area, but they need 51% of the homeowners to want to be annexed.

The town is currently offering tax abatements and interest free loans for 30 years for those that would need to add water and sewer connections to their home.  However, most Geist area residents are fighting mad about the significant tax increase.  In an effort to alleviate the tax increase of 16 - 22%, the city is offering to ease the homeowners into the new taxes over a three…
