According to a study which was released on Thursday, New Jersey's population has reached 21.6% foreign born.
With the numbers of immigrants moving to New Jersey ever increasing, and the numbers of non-immigrant New Jersey residents moving to other states increasing, we will soon reach the all time high level of 26% foreign born residents. That number of foreign born residents was last reached in 1910.
The report revealed that the last 7 years have seen the largest level of immigration in our history, both in New Jersey and nationally, with 1.5 million legal and illegal immigrants arriving in the country each year. Since the year 2000 New Jersey has taken in 589,000 new immigrants, only Texas and California took in more. The Children of immigrants now make up 31% of all school age children in New Jersey.
Many people will have different takes on this sort of news. I personally think it is a good thing, It helps our economy to become even more diverse, and it even helps our current slow moving New Jersey Real Estate market, by putting extra demand for housing both home buyers as well as home renters. Morris County is seeing it's share of the immigration as well. You can see it in the stores, on the streets, in our schools.
