New Jersey Governor Wants To Take Your Presidential Vote Away!!
Posted Jan 14, 2008 @ 7:25 am, Viewed by 407 Visitors, Read 411 Times.Attention New Jersey Voters, Political Rant Coming Right At You!!
New Jersey on Sunday became the second state to enter a compact that would eliminate the Electoral College's power to choose a president if enough states endorse the idea.
Governor Jon Corzine has signed legislation that approves delivering the state's 15 electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote. The Assembly approved the bill last month and the Senate followed suit earlier this month.
What does this mean for New Jersey's presidential vote? It means that it really does not matter who wins the state wide vote, if the national vote winner is from the other party, the presidential candidate who lost New Jersey's vote wins New Jerseys vote.
Have you every heard of such a socialist, anti democratic, anti voting idea?? Perhaps Governor Jon Corzine and the New Jersey Legislators need to here from the New Jersey voters. Perhaps we need to throw the bums out and start over with a new Governor and Legislature here in New Jersey.

Yes, but just because the nation voted one way, and New Jersey voted another way , I do not want my vote switched to the other side even if it changes the states vote to the way I voted. it is about principle. If they want to mess with this stuff why not do it right, rather then tinker around the edges. This is the problem with New Jersey government, they are only willing to do what is easy, they will not tackle the controversial yet needed issues. As a current politician likes to say, Trenton like Washington is the place good ideas go to die!! Thank you for commenting Jennifer, My main frustration is really not with this issue but with the overall problems that are not being faced.

Actually, I don't believe that is what he (or Maryland who have already enacted this) is trying to do. In presidential elections today, the electoral college is the entity that elects the president, not the common vote. So actually, your vote does not count today! If my memory is correct, there have been 4 presidents who have won the popular vote but lost the election because of the electoral vote. The most recent of these being the election of 2000 where Al Gore received the popular vote, but the electoral college voted in G W. Bush! Removing the electorial vote will remove the ability for elected officials to override the popular vote making your vote count once again.
