Dawsonville residents are fortunate to have many recreational options at their disposal.  Amicalola Falls State Park and Lake Lanier are two of the top tourist destinations in the state of Georgia that just happened to reside in Dawson County.   Amicalola Falls are 729 feet tall, which make them the highest waterfalls east of the Mississippi River.  Lake Lanier is the largest man-made reservoir in the southeast and boasts resorts, marinas, a beach, and all of the water sports one can dream of.  Along with those excellent outdoor attractions, Dawsonville also has one of the largest factory outlet malls in Georgia.  The North Georgia Factory Outlets contain all of the big names in the retail industry, and is sure to have what everyone is looking for.

Education and Schools

Public Shools in Dawsonville are managed by the Dawson County School Board.  Several of the schools in the County receive high marks from websites such as Greatschools.com.  At the collegiate level, while not having many colleges or universities actually located within Dawson County, the centralized allows for easy access to the surrounding educational institutions.

Tax Advantages for Residents

One of Dawsonville's strong points has definitely got to be the low property taxes.  The average Dawson County resident pays only $800 per year in property taxes compared to almost twice that in neighboring Forsyth and Cherokee Counties.  The tax burden here is very low also when compared to most counties in north of Atlanta.

Climate for Dawsonville

Dawsonville's climate is similar to most of North Georgia.  The northern mountainous part of the county tends to receive more harsh weather in the winter than the rest of the county.  Like most of the south, hot summers and mild winters are to be expected.  Rainfall is average, even though the level has been down over the last 3 years.
