The PGA Blvd bridge is finally finished
Posted May 20, 2007 @ 7:42 pm, Viewed by 481 Visitors, Read 483 Times. When the work started on rebuilding the draw bridge over the Intracoastal at PGA Boulevard the signs said it would be under construction for 4 months. The bridge is now finished and the construction equipment is all removed and it is only 2 years later. That is 2 years of bottle necks, long waits and periodic closings. To my knowledge no one went into road rage and did anything foolish, but I know a lot of us thought about it.
I came from 28 years in Alaska and was used to things being done very quickly. If it is going to be very cold in a few months, you make sure the work that is hard to do in -20 weather and three feet of snow is done in the short summer. If that means working 24 hours a day, then you do it. If it means two or three shifts of workers to do the work, then you provide them. In Florida the pace is a lot slower. A project is started and then left to season a little and then some more is done and that goes on until you are ready to file lawsuits or commit mayhem on some one.
The work is finally done and then the next project down the road starts and the comedy starts all over again. I don’t think Florida has heard of late penalties and bonuses for finishing early. Is that a northern concept? I guess that is the price we pay for living in paradise!!
