Nonetheless, this attractive city is still one of the fastest growing cities in the State of Texas. The reasons for this growth are quite simple – the area is considered to be one of the best managed cities in Texas. As a result, the city has an excellent educational system, beautiful parks, and some of the lowest crime rates in Texas.
Enjoying the Outdoors in Round Rock
For those that love spending time outdoors, Round Rock is a great place to live and to visit. The area is surrounded by lakes and is home to many parks as well as hiking and biking trails. One of these trailers is the historic Chisolm Trail. In all, Round Rock is home to 34 developed parks, which encompass a total of 1700 acres.
Round Rock is known for its excellent sports and athletic facilities. In fact, the city bills itself as the “Sports Capital of Texas” and offers a number of athletic facilities that are considered among the best in the nation. These facilities include many sports fields ranging from polo to cricket, and several golf courses communities such as Forest Creek and Teravista.
Round Rock also has plenty of recreational opportunities for the younger crowd. In 2007, it opened its first skate park, the Round Rock Skate Park. The skate park is a 14,000 square foot facility that features a variety of street elements, including rails, ledges, and banks, as well as a bowl.
The Clay Madsen Recreation Center can also be found in Round Rock. This $5.1 million facility covers a space of 55,000 square feet and offers access to a number of recreationa opportunities.
Awards and Recognition
Round Rock has received a great deal of recognition for its quality of life. In fact, it has been listed in the top five as one of the “Best Cities for Relocating Families” in a national study. In addition, CQ Press listed Round Rock as the 13th safest city in the United Sates when compared to other cities with a population of 75,000 or more. In a national competition, the city was also selected as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People.

LOL, yes it does sound like a Flintstone town! There is actually a very large round rock in a creek, and long ago ranchers used it is a landmark for a good place to cross the creek with their cattle. One funny thing, when people are relocating to the area they often ask us about the homes in Rolling Rock!!

So....I guess that is how the town got its name of Round Rock...thats a nice story. Rolling Rock....that was a popular beer. I know cause I drank it and called it rock and roll beer.
