This massive museum contains many exhibits and displays that document the history of Texas. This includes huge objects such as the original Goddess of Liberty that was on the top of the State Capitol building, a full-size windmill, a 1/3 scale model of the Lunar module and more.
University of Texas Campus/UT Tower
The University of Texas is large enough to be its own small city. Even if you aren’t planning to be a student at the University, its campus located in central Austin is worth a visit. There, you will find amazing sculptures and fountains. You can also enjoy several museums, including the Texas Memorial Museum, the Jack S. Blanton Museum of Art, and the Ransom Center. The LBJ Presidential Library and Museum is also on the University of Texas campus.
Driskill Hotel
Many couples plan for their nuptials to be held at the Driskill Hotel, which is quite luxurious and reminiscent of the Roman age. Built in 1886, several noteable events have occurred inside the rooms of the Driskill. For example, it was here that LBJ had his first date with Lady Bird Johnson. At the time the hotel was built, it cost a whopping $350,000 and another $50,000 to furnish it. In all, it features 72 rooms with attached baths, a feature that really made the hotel standout at the time.
The ‘Dillo
The ‘Dillo offers reproductions of historic trolley cars, which will take you through a number of Austin’s sites, including the Capitol Complex and the University of Texas campus. The ‘Dillo will also take you to downtown Austin where you can explore more of what the great city has to offer – and it is absolutely free!
Shopping and Restaurants
After enjoying all of the sites that Austin, Texas has to offer, you will certainly want to relax and grab a bite to eat. As would be expected of any large city, you have a wide variety of cuisines and ethnic foods to choose from when you eat at an Austin restaurant. After you get your energy built back up, you can enjoy a little window shopping or you can seek out great deals at the many stores and shops lining the streets of Austin.
