If you are looking for a nice, comfortable way to get around in the Austin area, you might want to check into Capital MetroRail.  Capital MetroRail’s services just started being offered in 2008, but it has already been quite well received.  These sleek trains strive to be both stylish and comfortable, offering high-back seats as well as overhead racks and bicycle racks.  Passengers can even access the Internet while riding on the train with the available Wi-Fi connections.  Not only that, each train also features tables as well as pull-down trays in some of the seating areas, making it much easier to pull out a laptop and get some work done.

Austin Capitol Metrorail

Capital MetroRail currently runs every 30 minutes on weekdays during the peak morning and evening rush hour hours.  By 2025, however, the company anticipates carrying 17,000 passengers per day.  Each of its cars carries around 225 passengers, with room for about 108 people to sit.  Despite its massive capacity, it has many benefits to the neighborhoods it passes through.

One of the benefits of Austin's commuter rail is the fact that it is actually quieter than buses.  Therefore, those that live near the tracks for the Capital MetroRail don’t have to worry about dealing with excessive noise or vibrations.  In addition, the train does not blow a whistle or horn at intersections because each intersection has a quad gate that completely blocks all lanes of traffic, making it unnecessary to blow a horn. In fact, the train meets all federal safety and environmental standards and the company is developing a special safety program to help educate children and adults about rail safety.

Working with the Bus System

Although the Capital MetroRail train system makes it possible for commuters from Leander to make it to Central Austin in just 50 minutes, it is not meant to replace the bus system.  In fact, the bus system has plans for future expansion and intends to be double its current size in 20 years.  The bus system will continue to be used during off peak hours, which is great for those that may accidentally miss the last train for the day.

Currently, the Capital MetroRail system has stations in Leander, Lakeline, and Howard.  Future expansion plans include stations in Round Rock, Texas and beyond.  The growing number of rail commuters should create some interesting real estate developments near the new rail stations.  For more information about homes and condos for sale near the rail stations please give us a call.  The Cantera Real Estate Team 1-800-790-7910
