Going Mobile - My New Toy

I shopped around for the lightest briefcase I could find (made out of some kind of microfiber). And I was so excited when I got my 12" screen Toshiba laptop.
Compared to my Dell Inspiron it felt so light and seemed so compact. I thought it would be the perfect travel laptop. That is, until I carried it in my laptop backpack on a flight. OK, there were some magazines and other stuff in the backpack, but suddenly that little laptop didn't feel so little anymore.
So I went on a quest to find a tiny laptop that was less than $2,000. To make a long story short, I am now the proud owner of the first couple hundred (if that many) MSI Winds that were made available in the U.S. It was priced at $479.00 and right now there is a wait for any further purchases.

Here's a comparison of my white Wind (also comes in black and pink but only black and white were available). The big computer is my husband's HP laptop which is heavier than my bowling ball. The Mama Bear is my 12" Toshiba.

Here's another size comparison. Isn't it (the Wind) cute?

Here is another comparison to my new Motorola Q.
My plan for this combo is to keep the Wind in my lightweight briefcase and use it at listing presentations to show off my websites live. I purchased the Motorola Q to use as a modem for the laptop as I don't want to have to purchase a pc card with a monthly fee as I won't be using it that much.
I studied how to tether my smart phone to my laptop and ended up trying out a free program called pdanet. It seemed to work perfectly yesterday when I downloaded the program but I was at home on wireless. I tried it in the car today and it didn't seem to work but I didn't have my instructions and it was a quick trip with the family so I didn't have time to fool around.
Tethering isn't allowed with my phone service but from what I've read and been told is that you would only get caught if you abuse it by doing this all the time. For once-in-a while tethering, which is what I'm planning on, there shouldn't be a problem. The cellular companies can actually cancel all of your services if they catch you abusing their cellular Internet service.
If the tethering doesn't work I'll have to purchase a pc card. I'll have to keep working on it. Now all I need is a mobile printer and then who needs an office? Of course, I am picturing myself fumbling around trying to tether the phone and laptop and just saying, "Oh, forget about it, let me just show you my listing presentation on paper." I've got to get this down!

Sounds great! We use a tethered modem with our Blackberrys frequently!
I look forward to reading more about the wind.

I'm going batty trying to tether via Bluetooth and was up again in the wee hours trying to figure it out. Sounds like it's a problem with the Moto Q although I have the latest model so was hoping it would work. I guess not. However, with a usb cable and the Pdanet software I finally got it to work in my car.
I'm still going to have to practice and write up a little cheat sheet until I can do it seamlessly. The problem I see at listing presentations is when to set it all up - in the beginning and risk losing all of my battery power and possibly losing the connection or just right before I'm going to use the laptop for my live website presentation.
