Chicago Tribune Article on Orland Park Features Judy Orr

In the last few years I've been interviewed by several local newspapers for different articles. It all started when an article regarding a lost domain name was published in the Wall Street Journal. That was syndicated all over the nation and was picked up by The Chicago Sun Times and the Daily Southtown. The Daily Southtown even did a second story with a photo! I was also featured on a local radio station regarding that story.
Once I got that second Daily Southtown article I started getting interviewed for real estate related stories. I've saved all of the interviews that I found. The problem is that they don't always tell you when the story will be published.
I was even on television this year (regarding my blogs on hypermiling) on WYCC on a college news show. Not sure how many viewers the show has. The spot wasn't real estate related but they did mention that I was a real estate agent.
Today I was in the car on my way to a back-to-back closing when my husband called. He told me I was in an article on the first page of the Homes Section of the Chicago Tribune. They used my name and quotes quite a bit and it wasn't badly edited (like some stories have been, especially the Wall Street Journal saga).
The article was entitled "A Tale of Two Orlands" and it is in the newspaper and their online website. Unfortunately, I didn't get any links from the online article.
The story was about Orland Park, the popular town that my real estate office is located in and is the one southwest suburb that has appeared in Money Magazine's Top 100 Places to Live list. It was basically a community profile that mentioned a bit of history, current amenities and information on Orland Park real estate.
I did get a couple calls today from people who saw my name in print. The more real estate articles I can get in, the more name awareness I will reap. In fact, it's always nice to hear potential clients say, "I've heard of you before." Many people recognize my name from my unique For Sale signs, too.
The nice thing is that this time around the author sent me a nice e-mail thanking me for the interview and sending me the link to the article (although I got it from my Google alerts already). That's the first time I was actually told when an article was being published.

Thanks Joe & Cal, the Trib is a nice one to be in. You wonder how many people read this stuff but then you get phone calls from friends who did (my real estate partner called me to tell me other people told her they saw my name).
Mark, I've got to take a good close-up photo of my signs. Keep forgetting. I've got some far away photos that don't do too much so the next time I put up a new one or remove one I'll take a close-up first. They're just a larger size, I think 24X36 on a white "T" shaped post but my husband and I created our own design. I'm the only one in my office of 150+ agents that did not conform and use my own signs. I started in the company way before most of these agents and quickly became the #1 agent so I got a little leeway.
Yea I've got my own personal signs and now Coldwell Banker is saying they don't like them after a year of having them out there and spending a lot of money on them. They say I am branding myself more than the company and I have to take them down. Unbelievable, you would think the more I brand myself and the more money I make because of it, the happier they would be. Thats not the case. They want the Coldwell Banker Logo just as big as the MARK Z. logo.
LOL! My name is huge compared to my Classic Realty Group logo. But our independent office is based on promoting the agent first.
Judy, that's a great story. I also had not known about your lost domain saga. What a great ending.
Judy:
Great to see you are getting some well deserved "pub". Also, you've got to love that "back-to-back closings" situation. Wish I had more of those!!
