We Bought Our Scottsdale Condo

Thanks to my friends here at REW, my husband and I bought a condo in Scottsdale, AZ over the New Year holiday.  My husband, a musician, had a New Year's Eve gig at Maggiano's in Scottsdale with a friend of his. 

We had been talking about purchasing a condo but this gig made us do more than just talk about it.  I had a little buyer's remorse at one point (read about it here).  But just prior to our trip I started getting really excited figuring out which properties I wanted to see.  And like any eager buyer, I had fun looking at all the different properties available.

We joke that you know real estate is bad when we can afford Scottsdale.  We figured we had to do it while prices were right.  I believe that Arizona will once again increase in prices to the point where we might not be able to afford living there if we wait until we're ready to retire. 

We're looking at this as a long-term investment and as pre-planning for our future.  We might try short-term rentals for other snowbirds until we're ready to do it ourselves.   

With this purchase I need to make sure I earn some money this year.  We will now be operating a 2nd residence with another mortgage payment, real estate taxes, insurance and all utilities.  Plus we need to completely furnish the place and get new carpeting and make some other repairs.  We did our homework and we can afford it, but we're taking a big chunk of savings out to do this.  It's a little scary.

I have started a journal on my love of Arizona and our purchase.  I'm thinking of getting licensed there so I've started my Scottsdale Real Estate blog, just in case!
