Palos Park Real Estate - A Surprise Showing

Palos Park, IL is one of the highest priced southwest suburbs and is a very desirable place to live.  The average price for a Palos Park home for sale in 2008 was $543,485.  It was started as an artist's community many years ago and offers a rural feel that is still close to downtown Chicago.  In fact, you can jump on the Metra train that has a stop in this prestigious village.

I showed a very unique home yesterday that looked cute in the MLS print-out.  I was excited to see it myself.  The age is unknown but this cute and unique home has been there for quite some time.

We drove up to the circular driveway and noticed the quaint cape cod style home nestled in a forest-full of trees - something Palos Park is famous for.  Before we went inside, we stepped around the back to view a small bridge going over a creek with a little trail on the other side.  It was muddy but my buyer couldn't resist and found the brick barbecue set-up at the end of the trail.

As we walked over the stone patio to view the rest of the lot, I jumped back after seeing something big and hairy.  We were in the woods and there's coyotes so I was a bit scared at first.  But after a second I realized it wasn't a dog or coyote, but a burro!  And it was on a leash - with another small horse (actually, a Shetland pony).

The lady at the other end of the leashes apologized and told us the owners had always let her walk them on the property.  They were like mini lawn mowers, eating the grass.  I pet the burro named Elmo and was surprised at how soft he was.  She told me he had been abused and when she got him his muzzle was full of cigarette burns.  The pony was blind and the situation was left for too long so there was no hope to repair her damaged eyes.

The lady worked for a veterinarian and took these two in.  I could see that she lived next door (although next door isn't side-by-side in this particular area) and she had what looked like a very cute and clean stable and fence for her equines.  I think they went from hell to heaven and I love those kinds of stories.

I love my job!  For those of you who live in rural areas and are thinking, "Big Deal!" please keep in mind that we are in a close suburb of Chicago and although I know there is a public horse stable in the area, this was an unexpected treat for us city dwellers.
