When Real Estate Technology Attacks - II

I have a headache from working on a new listing plug-in for my Orland Park real estate website that will show nice, professional listings with thumbnail photos and other features. I’ve been working with the designer for two days but we just can’t get it to work on my blog/site. That reminded me of this series I’m writing about and I need to take a breather from that.
To refresh your memory, I had a very busy couple of weeks where I needed everything to work smoothly. Of course, that’s when things start falling apart. My first problem has already been written about; my bad Internet connection.
I had written several contracts and received several on my listings which needed to be faxed back and forth. I have been using Winfax which is on my computer. I like it because it doesn’t use paper unless I want to print it out, it’s right on my computer and allows me to organize the faxes by saving them and I can create a pdf from the faxes so I can e-mail them instead of re-faxing. If I need to re-fax it’s pretty much just pushing the send button on my computer & filling in the cover sheet.
The bad part is that only about 50% of the received faxes come through. My husband thinks it depends on the incoming fax machine but we’re not really sure why some work like a charm and some don’t. He’s even visited forums for Winfax and it seems like a lot of users experience the same problems. My husband claims it’s the best computer fax program around but is still not very reliable.
My issue is that when it doesn’t work I have to explain everything to my client or the agent and make them fax it to me again. In several situations we just gave up after a couple tries and I turned my regular fax machine on. I’m sure some people were getting fed up.
I know I can sign up for e-fax (there are many others to choose from) but I’ve had similar problems faxing to them so I don’t think they’re bullet proof, either. Having faxes come straight to your e-mail or your computer is a wonderful thing, but only when it works.
It’s getting to the point that when a fax comes in I’m nervous and wondering if this one’s gonna make it or not. Maybe there’s something better out there that I don’t know about. Please share.

Judy - I use Maxemail (www.maxemail.com) for incoming faxes and one of the great things about it is that it archives your faxes on their web site, so you can find them there even when you are away from your computer, or of course if your email gets lost! --Carlyn Lowery Associate Broker Keller Williams Select Realtors Annapolis, Maryland www.CarlynLowery.com
