Homer Glen, IL, is the newest Chicago suburb and will be celebrating its tenth anniversary in 2011. It doesn't seem like it's been that long since Homer Glen was incorporated. It is a southwest Chicago suburb located in Will County starting just west of Will-Cook Rd. and a bit south of 131st St. It borders Orland Park, Lemont, Lockport and New Lenox.
Since it isn't quite 10 years yet, a special census was taken and Homer Glen, Illinois has around 25,069 residents and comprises about 22.4 square miles of land. It is about 11 miles from Chicago.
Homer Glen is an area that is continually building up and is getting more shopping and restaurants, which are usually newer. Yet this newest suburb still has a lot of green space including Messenger Woods Nature Preserve, and offers a more rural feel. Horses are allowed on properties with the proper acreage (check with the village) and driving down certain streets you can see horse riders on or crossing the trails. Photo by vlxa
