I had lunch on Thursday with Claire MacDonald to discuss my upcoming travel plans for Europe this fall. Claire has her own travel agency, A Destination Travel, which is part of the Virtuoso professional travel network. These are handpicked agencies from around the world which specialize in global travel.
But not only is Claire a travel agent, she and her husband, Richard MacDonald, are the developers of MacDonald Ranch in the Green Valley area of Henderson, Nevada. The centerpiece of MacDonald Ranch is MacDonald Highlands, an exclusive guard gated golf community. The Dragon Ridge golf course is loads of fun to play, and the Wendy's Three Tour Challenge was even held there one year - I was one of the fortunate fans that got to follow the players around. (I love going to the Three Tour Challenge every year - the players are relaxed and have fun with the crowd since it is all for charity.)
Anyway, after discussing my travel itinerary, naturally the conversation got around to the local Las Vegas real estate market and what was going on with the inventory. I don't know what was more exciting for me - planning my trip or hearing that finally sales of custom home lots in MacDonald Highlands have taken off again, and there is loads of building going on. New construction is a sure indicator that our market is truly recovering after a long hard dry spell. New building starts show a faith in the local economy and create jobs which fuel even more new construction. Hurrah for Las Vegas at last!!
